WYA + Gizo Town Market
Watson Young Architects is currently involved in the redevelopment of Gizo Town Market in the Solomon Islands. Gizo Island is notable for WWII exploits of American forces in the Solomon Islands and in particular J.F. Kennedy. Gizo Town is a bustling port that provides a trading focus for the Western Provinces. The market has a vibrant atmosphere trading fresh produce and fish on a daily basis. In collaboration with Reeves International, WYA is redeveloping Gizo Town Market for the Western Province Provincial Government with funding by Australian Aid (DFAT). The market redevelopment is part of an aid program to stimulate regional trade in the Solomon Islands and to develop a more resilient economy.
